5/14/12                        Watercolor Society of Oregon – Bonney Lamb Memorial Scholarship - $500 scholarship for a child grades 7 –12 designated as ‘at risk’ or attending an alternative school. The scholarship is to be used for art education – this can include workshops or art supplies. Application must be received by 5/14/12.

 

5/15/12                        Pete Brooks Scholarship - $2500 maximum for a senior who will be attending U of O on a pre-business track next year. 5/15/12                        Saidie Orr Dunbar Nursing Education Fund - $1000-3000 awards for students who have been accepted to a nursing degree program and must practice in Oregon upon graduation. Particular emphasis is given to preparation in public health nursing. Details at www.lungoregon.org. Deadline: 5/15/12

 

5/15/12                        Jodi Engel Memorial Scholarship - $1000 award will be granted for a senior student (preferably member of the Chintimini Kennel Club) who participates in the sport of dogs in one or more venues.  Deadline: 5/15/12.

 

5/15/12                        Oregon Scottish Rite Education Foundation Scholarship – Offers several $1000-5000 for Oregon residents entering an undergraduate at an accredited college or university, made on the basis of student need. Consideration given for exceptional leadership qualities. Details at www.oregonscottishrite.org. Deadline: 5/15/12.

 

5/15/12                        Sub Pop Records Scholarship – Offering three scholarships $3000-6000 for students who are involved and/or interested in music and/or the creative arts in some way. Essay required and successful applicants have sent digital links and/or provided hard copies of their artwork along with their essay. Essay question available in Beyond CHS. Deadline: 5/15/12.

 

 

5/21/12                        Knights of Columbus scholarship  - Up to $500 scholarship. Aid limited to Catholic students graduating Spring 2012, preference given to members of  KoC #1785 or St. Mary’s Parish, Corvallis. Details and application at  http://kofc1785.org/scholarship/ .Application must be postmarked or delivered by 5/21/12.

 

5/21/12            Lynn Lahey “Somos el Futuro”- Offering one $500 scholarship to a bilingual student who has attended 509J schools for 2 or more years.  Application available in Beyond CHS.  Deadline:  5/21/12.

 

5/21/12            Clinton Stoddard Memorial Scholarship-  $500 award for student pursuing agriculture, veterinary medicine or engineering in public Oregon college. Application available in Beyond CHS.  Deadline: 5/21/12.

 

5/25/12            Benton County Livestock Association – $300 scholarship is for a senior pursuing a career in agriculture at an Oregon college. Deadline 5/25/12.

 

5/31/12            Rollin Oldies Automotive Scholarship – A $ 500 award to a senior from Albany, Lebanon, Scio, Sweet Home, Corvallis or Philomath who plans to attend an Oregon accredited school of higher learning full time, in an automotive related field.  Deadline:  5/31/2012.

 

6/11/12            P.E.O. STARS Scholarship – This is a $2500 scholarship administered by local P.E.O. chapters through the state PEO organization for next year’s senior women (this year’s juniors). Applicants should have strong academics, excellent leadership and a record of outstanding volunteer contributions. More information is available at www.zinch.com/scholarships/peo-star-scholarship . NATIONAL:

 

 

9/1/12              Sam Walton Associate Scholarship -  Scholarship for a graduating senior who has worked at Walmart at least 6 months prior to application date and attending college next year.  Details: https://www.act.org/walmart/associate/   Deadline:  9/1/12

 

10/5/12                        AES Engineering - $500 award for high school seniors. You do not need to be pre-engineering to apply.  Submit an essay – details at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm  .  Deadline 10/5/12.

 

12/31/12          American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Family Scholarship Program – (10) $2,000 scholarships, renewable for up to 4 years, to children and financially dependent grandchildren of AFSCME members and retirees. Open to HS seniors, must have taken SAT or ACT. Go to http://www.afscme.org/members/880.cfm for more information. Deadline: postmarked by December 31, 2012.

 

LISTS:

African – American Scholarship Listings – Come to CHS and get the list from the scholarship drawer. It is a great starting point for African – American Students looking for scholarships.  But don’t forget to look at this list too, because there are three scholarships listed below which are for African –American students- the Black United Fund of Oregon, the Ron Brown Scholar Program  and the Dr. Ethel Simon –McWilliams Scholarship.

 

Asian American Scholarships – The Asian Reporter has a list of scholarships for Asian American students. Various specific qualifications and deadlines apply. Go to http://www.asianreporter.com/scholarships.htm for more information.

 

Latino & Latina Student Scholarships- A number of organizations offer scholarships specifically geared to Latino/Latina students.  Check out these websites:  www.finaid.org/otheraid/minority.phtml, www.lib.msu.edu/harris23/grants/3specpop.htm, www.aspira.org, www.hermana.org, www.hsf.net, www.nacme.org/scholarships , www.maldef.org (including lists of scholarship sites for non-US citizens graduating from US high schools) and http://www.oregonhealthcareers.org/scholarships.phtml#  or in Spanish http://www.oregonhealthcareers.org/scholarshipsS.phtml . Some of the scholarships to which these websites refer charge a fee to apply.  Beyond CHS does not recommend applying for such scholarships. ***MARCH 16 deadline to apply for scholarships through www.hispanicscholars.org ***

 

Student Scholarships and Awards – Numerous scholarships that Oregon students can qualify for at www.studentscholarships.org or call 1-888-214-3185. Some require essays and others have specific eligibility requirements.

 

 

OPPORTUNITIES:

 

5/14/12                        Kiwanis Law Enforcement Career Camp: For juniors and seniors interested in law enforcement professions. Students will be selected through application process, must be recommended by hs principal, two teachers and a law enforcement representative. Camp will include introduction to law enforcement methods, basic enforcement, self-defense skills. Tuition is $500, some local Kiwanis clubs may offer scholarships. NO DEADLINE       Stay in School Scholarship - $4000 per year for 4 years of post-high school education is available to you if you are: 1) are you in a situation that could place you “at risk” of not completing high school and receiving a standard diploma, 2) are you currently 14 – 16 years old?

3) would you like to further your education and train for a career after graduation, 4) are you willing to accept a helping hand and work hard to accomplish the goal of graduation from high school with a standard high school diploma?    You must be able to answer ‘yes’ to all four of these questions.
